The incident began around 8:13 a.m. Thursday, when Connecticut State Police received numerous 911 reports of a black tow truck driving in an extremely reckless manner headed southbound on I-95 in Stratford, said the state police.
Troopers quickly located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop due to the reckless operation, state police said.
As troopers attempted to the stop the vehicle, the driver, later identified as James Delnero, 28, of Springfield, Massachusetts, engaged officers in a pursuit through Stratford into Bridgeport where the vehicle was forcibly stopped just south of Exit 17 in Westport.
Delnero was arrested and charged with reckless driving, driving more than 85 mph, engaging police in a pursuit, disobeying police officers, resisting police, and reckless endangerment.
He is being held on $7,500 and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 11.
